Carnival 2012
FULL PROGRAMME OF 2012 EVENTS
Official dates are Saturday 28th July until Sunday 5th August 2012.
During the coming months the Carnival Committee will be busy putting together the Programme of events for 2012. In the meantime here is a taste of just a very small selection of our events:
Live Music Events – During the week the committee organise approx 6 evenings of live music at different venues around the town. We endeavour to provide a wide range of music to appeal to people of all ages and tastes and in the past have included a Wild West evening, a Beach Party, Classical Music and various Tribute Groups
FunQuay Day – Takes place on the Quayside on the Tuesday and is a summer fair packed with stalls offering food from around the world and closer to home, plus crafts and entertainment. Please Note: For 2012 it is likely this will take place on the Buttlands.
Childrens Fantastic Fun Day – To take place on the Beach Road Playing Field on the Wednesday - organised and run by the Friends of the Beach Road Playing Field
Screen on the Green – Thursday brings the ever popular Screen on the Green. The event takes place on the Buttlands and cinema goers are encouraged to bring their chairs, set up in front of the big screen and turn the green into an outdoor cinema for the evening.
Sandcastle & Sand Sculpture Competition – Taking place on Wells Beach, this event is very much dependant on the tides and is open to all ages.
Teddy Bears Picnic – For the under 6’s – bring a picnic, a teddy or a special toy and a grown-up and follow the trail through the woods to the clearing. Set out your picnic and enjoy the entertainment.
Gillying Competition – Taking place by the Harbour Office, use your skills with a crab line and bait to see how many gillys (crabs) you can catch in a given time.
Carnival Day & Evening – The 2nd Saturday of Carnival week brings Carnival Day itself. The event takes place on the Buttlands and includes stalls, entertainment, fancy dress competitions along with the famous Carnival Parade around the town. There is then live musical entertainment in the evening bringing the day to a close.
Some of the other events throughout the week will include: Bingo, Costume Making Workshop, Craft Fairs, Children’s Painting Competition and Classical Music on the Buttlands.
All the events during Carnival week are either free of charge or of minimal cost to cover expenses. The committee are all volunteers and rely on donations from members of the public to ensure the continuation of the Carnival. We endeavour to repeat old favourites and bring in new and exciting entertainment each year. So please make sure you pop a pound in our collection bucket when you come to an event. If everyone who came to Wells Carnival gave us just £5.00, who knows who we could get to perform next year!!!!!!!
